Choosing the best foundation
In times of trouble, we revert to what we know. We do whatever habit we have formed before the time of trouble.
During this pandemic, have your habits changed at all? Have mine? What is this troublesome time teaching us personally?
I am in the habit of seeking the Lord every day. I seek His Presence, His wisdom, His peace, His insight, His love - I seek Him. This habit has served me well over the decades, to say the least. It is like a soft, cushion-y substance that I rest on, find my strength - yet not my strength, but His. I do better when I don't try to be so strong, but when I rely on His strength. After all, there is no stronger source of strength than God!
Yet underlying the soft cushion of His grace, mercy, love and security is the strongest, rock-like foundation you could ever have. It never goes away. His Foundation is forever. It is secure - even in the most troublesome times.
We must be careful because those "foundations" that may have served us in the past - if they are anything substandard to the Foundation of Christ - will crumble during the really difficult times. Can you name your foundation or foundations? Maybe one is family. Or money. Or a job title. There are so many lesser foundations out there!
Are these other things important? They have their place. But you wouldn't shingle a foundation as if it were a roof. And you wouldn't lay cement on top as a roof.
In the same way, some things just aren't meant to be foundations. But if you're not connected to Christ, the options are what they are for foundations.
My best advice would be to start building on and trusting in the Foundation of all foundations - the only solid Foundation that stands up during all of life's events, including a pandemic. Not just faith in faith, but the Object of faith - the Lord Jesus Christ.
Receive Christ into your heart. Be found in Him. You will finally know true peace, contentment, joy and love no matter what is happening around you. You need Him always - during a pandemic, and in other less chaotic times.
He is all we all need.
