Stand strong

The Lord calls us to stand our ground in Him.  This means that we do not kowtow to passing fancies of the day.  Though most others may choose the broad path, we are stay on the narrow path assigned to us by the Lord.

When we veer from His chosen path for us - the path of obedience - we are in dangerous territory.  Though unbelievers may seem to flourish on the broad path (the operative work being "seem"), it will all come to nothing one day if they ignore God and are just doing their own thing.

Don't be enamored by the world's ways.  It may be slick and glossy - appealing to the eyes - but it is mere fluff.

The lasting stuff is that which we do for the Lord.  These are works that may go unnoticed.  These may be inner qualities like patience, a forgiving spirit (or at least a willingness to forgive out of obedience to Christ), wanting Christ to be glorified in our lives - these works are gold in the Lord's eyes, though the world could care less about these spiritual matters.

So standing our ground means staying true to the Lord at all costs.  Not wavering from His call, His truth, His ways no matter how unusual our ways may be to others (including some other Christians).

For many are called but few are chosen.  So we will look and act strange to most.  Some will be drawn to Christ in us, most won't.  We are not responsible for saving souls - that is the Lord's work.  We share the Gospel, but it is the Lord who saves. We are responsible to staying true to Him, abiding in Him, letting Him finish His work in us, and trusting Him.  As we do these, we shed light wherever we are - the light of Christ.

For some, this light will be too bright, shedding light on the sin in their hearts and lives, so they will run from it.  But the light will be undeniable just the same.

As it becomes more "acceptable" for those in the world to stay in the dark, to not believe in God, to trust more in technology or whatever else than the One True Living God, we will need to dig our spiritual heels in all the more.

God will not be mocked.  He prevails now and always.  Stand strong in Him, for Him, and through Him.

Philippians 4:1
"Therefore, my beloved brethren whom I long to see, my joy and crown, in this way stand firm in the Lord, my beloved."
