The Holy Spirit leads you
We all need direction in life. We want to know the future, our destination, where we are going.
What better help could we ask for than an all-knowing compass in the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity and is equal to God and Jesus. They are one and the same Being.
So how are we led by the Holy Spirit? We let Him! To be a follower, we must be willing to be led. It may seem a simple explanation, but unless we lay down our "rights" and also the belief that we know best, we cannot truly follow Christ via the Holy Spirit.
The Spirit testifies to Truth. Always. He will never steer you wrong.
But how do we know when it's the Holy Spirit leading us, and not someone else or even ourselves?
Practice.
As we listen to the Holy Spirit, at first it may be hit or miss. And that's ok. You hear among Christians all the time, "I thought God told me..." I'm not sure why this happens. To keep us humble? To make sure we keep listening, keep trying to hear from God and to trust Him regardless if we think we "got it wrong."
Of course the number one way He leads us is through His Word. He offers us a Scripture to comfort, convict, or console us. Or He leads us to a verse that helps us discern the next step to take on our path.
What a treasure, the gift of the Holy Spirit! Jesus did not leave us to fend for ourselves in this life!
People pay millions, if not billions, of dollars throughout the world to get advice, counsel, and the like. And sometimes, we need that.
But just think! We have an all-knowing God who lives inside us at the ready! He is ready and willing to give us perfect counsel 24/7!
Some people call this the "gut." Or intuition. And they may come into play. But the Holy Spirit is God! Our gut and intuition may fail us. God never does.
Only God is spot on every time. Only God knows what lies up ahead on our path. Only God knows each and every parameter of our lives as well as what is happening around the world. Wow! And He has given us access to this knowledge and wisdom the moment we are born again.
But like a baby must learn how to listen, talk, walk, etc, once we are born again that is only the beginning. We must practice listening to the Holy Spirit over and over again in order to correctly discern His still small voice.
Do we want to know? Do we want to hear from Him? What if He tells us to move to Africa?! That is what some fear - some crazy notion that God wants to give us some drastic marching orders, so we don't seek His voice at all. Big mistake.
Yes, He may lead us into unchartered territory. And if He does, we can trust Him fully!
But mostly He is just there guiding us daily, in our everyday lives, helping us to make the best possible decisions as we go.
The Holy Spirit warns us of danger. The Holy Spirit is our Teacher.
It is a privelege that we should not take for granted as followers of Christ. For it is the Holy Spirit who enables and empowers us to follow Christ at all!
Seek His wisdom and counsel. Believe that He will always lead you into Truth and the best way for you. Welcome His Presence into your heart and life.
Lord Jesus, thank You for providing the Holy Spirit to heal and guide us. Thank You for not leaving us alone when You left this earth, but for living inside us via the Holy Spirit. Help us discern Your work in our lives, Your still small voice, and to listen, trust, and obey You. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
