Beyond, not better
Some are further along their walk with Christ than others. That doesn’t make them “better than” others, but they are beyond them.
This is not prideful but simply a fact. I may be on mile 4,000 and you may be at the 10 mile marker. Or vice versa.
Why bring this up at all? Because we cannot expect others to “meet us where we’re at” if they have never been where we are.
More importantly, we should not let others pull us back to a place with God from which we have already trod.
Joshua and Caleb entered the Promised Land out of a courage based on their faith that God was with them. Hard to believe, but they were the only two to do so out of millions of Jews. Not very good statistics, but fact.
I believe this historical fact plays out still among God’s followers. Not many will enter the Promised Land out of fear or other excuses.
Were Joshua and Caleb “better than” the others? They were as human as the rest of them. But they went most definitely beyond the others.
So where are you headed? Are you prone to “group think” or the herd mentality so much so that you will not follow Jesus wherever He leads? Are you more concerned with “fitting in” and not making waves that you remain with the fearful majority?
There may be a certain comfort to that way of life. But if God wants to take you further, then is that shallow and changeable comfort really worth it?
Do I believe that the Promised Land is for all of God’s people? Yes, I do. But as we learned from Joshua, I also know that few will actually enter it.
So which will you choose? The commoner’s way? Or God’s way? It’s up to you, friend. I pray that you are strong and courageous and bold moving forward, knowing that God is with you. The road is for sure less traveled, but most definitely more rewarding and fulfilling.
Dear Lord. Help us to follow You wherever You lead, whether or not the crowd joins in. For You are our Lord, O God, not people. Your promises are for Your people. But we must obey You in order to receive them. So as You show us Your Promised Land for us, please empower us to make the best choice and follow You there, knowing that Your Presence is with us. Amen.
